Golf Course Prepares for Canadian Open

Wow, what a winter we’ve had!  I’m sure all of you are as glad as I am we haven’t been up North all winter where it has been really tough but come on, this is Mazatlan Mexico and we don’t have heat in our homes and it is supposed to be warm!  Afterall, that’s why we live here.

As most of you know the unusually cold weather has been very hard on the plants around the resort as well as the grass on the golf course.  There was about a 3 week period when the grass actually started to go dormant due to the cold and quit growing.  This, combined with an increase of golf traffic has been very hard on the golf course.

Now that the grass is starting to grow again we are asking your help in getting the course in better condition.  We are seeing a lot of wear around the tees and greens.  If we all could keep all 4 wheels on the cart paths the grass in these areas would improve dramatically in a short time.  Also, filling divots (yours and others) with sand will enable to grass to grow into the divot more quickly than leaving a hole there.  Please don’t replace the grass into the divot, it won’t grow.  And, there are those pesky ball marks on the greens that always seem to need our attention.

A small effort on our part will make a huge difference in the playability of our beautiful course for everyone to enjoy, and also help with the presentation when the Canadian Tour holds the Mexican PGA Championship here May 9-15.

EDM Back Nine Closed

According to the Estrella del Mar Golf Pro Shop, the back nine on our fabulous Robert Trent Jones designed golf course will be closed for 2 days beginning Monday, May 24, 2010 for greens aeration. The front nine was aerated last week and has recovered somewhat (although, I personally used the 2 putt rule. Didn’t help much)

Hit & Giggle Today

There is a Hit & Giggle scheduled for today, April 21 at 3 pm. The cost is $200 pesos and includes 9 holes of golf, appetisers, two-for-one beer and margaritas and prizes for the winning teams.  See ya there!

A Message from Kim Anders

I have received a few requests for information regarding the recent robbery involving our refreshment cart on the 14h hole. The case has been reported and is being investigated by the police.

Due to these recent events, the following procedural changes are being implemented to provide a safer golfing experience.

Golf Course Promotion Days

Our golf course is becoming increasingly popular!  Gone are the days of being the only ones on the back nine! FYI, Promotional Days are Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays now. So if you are gonna play on those days, it’s best to get out early or late. Additionally, the Saturday Skins Game is becoming increasingly popular. The cost to play golf is reduced on Saturdays for those in the Skins game so Saturdays tend to be pretty busy also. Thursday mornings is Ladies’ Day so I guess that only leaves Mondays and Wednesdays.

Ladies’ Day Golf

The regular Ladies Day Golf will continue on Thursdays at 8:30 AM. The sign up sheet will be posted in the Clubhouse locker room but participation in the 20 peso pool is optional. Let me know if you will be able to join us this Thursday!
