Mariscos ISSA

Mariscos ISSA

After the classroom dedication, we gringos went out to Mariscos ISSA (south on 15 3 km towards Villa Union, on the right). The weather was perfect and we were all a bit heady after the mornings’ festivities. The limited staff provided excellent service and delicious food. Examples of the ordered items included:

  • Coconut Shrimp
  • Breaded Shrimp
  • Mango Shrimp
  • Garlic Shrimp
  • Stuffed Shrimp
  • Grilled Beef
  • Crab Tostadas
  • Shrimp Ceviche
  • Fish Ceviche
  • Fried Bananas

Not one dish disappointed. In fact, I believe that every single one of us was well pleased with the service, presentation and quality of the food. So next time out, think about Mariscos ISSA. They are open during daylight hours and are also located directly across from WalMart.

Mariscos ISSA

Ever get a craving for really great seafood but don’t feel like going all the way into El Cuchapetas?  There is a closer alternative.  Mariscos ISSA is located about 2/3 of the way between the airport turnoff on Highway 15 and the Auxilary Rio Presidio bridge. Look for the third retorno in the new median divider. Its just past the tall, yellow silo of the asphalt plant and the dusty soccer field. The sign is small and down in the borrow pit, but look for lush, green lawns and the beautifully landscaped drive. The petunias will blow you away! The menu is more diverse than Cuchapetas offering a variety of meat dishes as well as the favorite crab tostadas and steamed, fried, baked or breaded fish and shrimp. Al gusto!  = As you like it. They do sell beer and pop but not wine and tequila. This is the same outfit that runs the Mariscos ISSA that is across from WalMart. Hours are 9 am to 5:30 pm, so the next time the urge strikes you, head on out to Mariscos ISSA and enjoy!!

Yuba’s Breaded Shrimp is the Best

Yuba’s Breaded Shrimp is the Best

After the Grand Opening of the library, we had a chance to eat at Yuba’s Restaurant in Barron.  It was delicious.  The Breaded Shrimp is the best I have EVER tasted.  They also serve Crab Tostadas that rival those at Cuchupetas. Right now, that is the extent of their menu, but they are working on a Garlic Shrimp dish that was pretty good. Yuba’s is located on the north west corner of the main plaza in Barron.  Right now, all the streets are torn up because of the major road paving project in town, but it would be worth it to park out by the stadium and walk the three blocks south to find Yuba’s. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired but you won’t notice as you scarf down those shrimp.  They are called “camarones empanizados”.  Try it! You’ll like it!
