Meet Miriam – HOA Manager for EDM

Miriam Ayala is our new Edit, meaning she replaced Edit Tatar, the HOA Manager last year after Edit left to be married. Funnily enough, Miriam and Edit are friends; Miriam went to high school with Edit’s new husband, Rodrigo. Miriam was born in nearby Villa Union and her parents still reside there.  Her younger brother,  travels into Mazatlan daily to attend high school. At age 33, Miriam has seen a good part of the world. She spent her last year of high school as an exchange student in Taylorsville, Utah where she saw snow for the first time. She was tempted by the ski slopes but found her comfort level in the ski lodge, as much as she likes the outdoors.  Miriam is an avid runner and loves a good climbing wall, an amenity that Mazatlan has yet to develop. After graduating from University with a degree in Industrial Engineering, Miriam lived in Guadalajara for two years and worked for a pharmaceutical company. But the travel bug bit her again and she was off to London to continue her studies.  Returning to Monterrey, Mexico, Miriam worked for a global pipeline pipe manufacturing company, Tenaris, and her job took her to many places including Argentina. She found that her passion was International Commerce so she quit the pipeline job and went to Barcelona to finish her Master’s Degree. During this time she traveled to Germany, Austria and Italy. Then two years ago, she returned to her home town and began a construction company and manufactured cement building blocks, just as the recession hit, severely reducing the demand for advanced block technology. So Miriam took Edit’s old job and is now in charge of the financial operations of all sub-regiemes. She oversees all the common areas, pools, landscaping, dues and complaints.  She is our personal connection with Concord. Miriam loves a challenge and she loves working hard. I’m sure you will see her zipping around the property in her golf cart or pouring over spread sheets. You’ll know who she is by her big smile.

Olga is a Maztaleca, meaning she was born and raised in Mazatlan. She is married and has two grown daughters aged 22 and 25. She attended high school in Mazatlan and University down in Nayarit, near Puerto Vallarta majoring in Tourist Administration. She has been with EDM for 4 years and is the only HOA Manager that Phase two has ever known. Previous to her employment at EDM, Olga worked for El Cid, Sheridan Hotels in Guadalajara, Sea Garden and Paraiso del Mar here in Mazatlan. As an only child, her parents were sad to see her leave Mexico after graduation to go to Montreal, Canada. She had no specific plans when she left but she spent a year there, living in the YWCA and studying both English and French. She has very fond memories of Montreal and hopes to visit there again soon. Her passion is art and architectural drawing. When her daughters were small, she attended architectural school for 6 months but was unable to complete the course. But both of her daughters were inspired by her passion and they both are architects today; the older one lives in Belgium and the younger, here in Mazatlan. Olga is a very good artist in her own right. She prefers working in acrylics when she is not doing line drawings. Her husband is a real estate agent in Mazatlan. To all you Canadians, help Olga practice her French. Bonjour!!

This is Aurelio Gonzales. You might see him at the front gate or zipping around the property on an ATV. He is originally from Tijuana but he grew up in Tecate. He started to volunteer for the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) in Tecate and was assigned to the Bomberos (firemen). He took his Technico en Urgencia Medicina (TUM) training at the Technical Institute in Mazatlán and has been a TUM for 16 years. He has worked for EDM for 2 years. He is married to Angelica and has  sons, ages 7 and 3. His most challenging assignments before he worked for EDM were on the scene of bus accidents where there were many casualties. Here at EDM, he deals mostly with jellyfish and catfish stings although he was called upon last year to rescue some children who had been caught in a rip tide. The firemen and policemen who volunteer at Estrella during the summer months to collect turtle eggs have been training the staff here to do water rescues using the jet ski that is kept down at the turtle camp. Aurelio is a fully trained EMT, and has handled back injuries, heart problems, cuts, burns, broken limbs and general illnesses here at EDM.

This is Carlos Rubio. He is a Mazteleco, meaning he was born and raised in Mazatlan. The local nick name for Maztelecos is “pata salada” (salty feet). His wife, Mirna Angelica is also a pata salada and they have three children Karen Angelica (age 19). Carlos Rubio (age 18) and “the baby” Jonathan Humberto (age 10).  Carlos trained to be a EMT with the Bomberos (fire department) here in Mazatlan 15 years ago and has worked here at EDM for 1.5 years. After completing high school in Mazatlan, Carlos went to the University of Culiacan to take a degree in Quimico Fármaco Biólogo (QFB) and so has extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and medicines of all types. During the day, Carlos works at the Social Security building downtown and then works here at EDM from 5 pm to 6 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday afternoons. He alternates shifts with the newest EMT on staff, Arturo Chavez.  Carlos’ more exciting cases on-site have been cuts, amputations, car crashes and heart attacks.

Arturo Chavez is the newest member of the staff. His first day was April 22, and his bio will be added to this post at a later time.

Meet Pedro. He is one of EDMs gardeners and in fact, he knows a lot about plants. He is 24 years old and has been working at EDM ever since he married his wife, Ana Belen. She works occasionally as a child caregiver on site, but mostly she is a stay-at-home mother to their son, Alejandro, who is 5 years old. Pedro was born and raised in Barrón. After hours, he is a member of the band “Santa Fátima”, a big brass band with 16 members; 6 trumpets, 2 clarinets, 2 harmonias, 1 tarola, 1 tambora, 1 tuba and a vocalista. This band has BIG sound! They play on occasion at La Trampa in Barrón as well as down in Isla Piedra at Molokay.

"Kiki"

If you need something, ask this guy

This is Kiki… our “go-to” guy. He is 35 years old and has held his resident manager position for two years now. This is the second time he has worked at EDM. When he was in his late 20s, he started as the bartender at Las Palomas. Then he moved over to Las Villas to work as a bell boy. Moving on up, he shifted over to La Lagunita and worked at the reception desk before moving on again to the Pro Shop. He left EDMs employ for 2 years and worked at Quaker State Oil for a year and as a DHL office supervisor for a year.  We are very happy to have him back here at La Lagunita.

“Kiki” is the nickname for those called “Enrique”, Kiki’s middle name.  He has been married to his wife Sonia for 9 years and they have two sons; “Kikito”, age 8 (he’s in 3rd grade) and baby Diego (3 yrs). Sonia is a stay-at-home Mom and they live in the Prado del Sol development near the Pacifico distributorship on the Carretera Internacional. They have lived there for seven years.  When he is not working in his office, Kiki likes to play EDM League soccer in the summertime. Kiki loves his job and is one of the most helpful people around.  Be sure to introduce yourself.
